Free to love, share
and support
Friends meeting in homes is nothing new, in fact that's
how the early Christians would get together. People opened their homes as
places of praise, worship, refreshing and refuge from all the cares and
problems of
this world.
Christians from all backgrounds basically desire to
unite in the Love of Jesus and to support one another in that love. This
unity is best experienced in the various informal gatherings of believers.
Many churches place a lot of emphasis and rightly
so to the benefits involved in home group meetings. For those not familiar
with church jargon, home groups or cells are something like "mini church
services" with a less formal structure. In such meetings Christians ( and
those interested to join Christians ) find the opportunity to get to know
one another and Christ in a more personal way.

Fellowship |
Not to belittle the formal Sunday gatherings of praise
and worship at all, but the home group will always offer every person present,
whether they be coming back to church, or a recent convert or just an enquirer,
the opportunity to ask or share on how the knowledge and wisdom of Jesus
makes a difference to life and living today without feeling uncomfortable.
Friends gathering in Jesus' name can always rest assured
of the promise of Jesus being in their midst.
Fellowship in the home
does not necessarily require leaders or hierarchy
( depending on how formal or
informal they are ) for Jesus is the Head of the universal church and this Headship is the common
ground in which all believers everywhere and anytime are enabled to stand
with confidence before God the Father.
Leadership has to do mainly with the administration
and structure of church organizations and institutions which deal with money
and other matters that require government supervision.
Organised churches with their many ministries can
serve as valuable resources for all the community including friendship groups.
The church is wherever people gather in the Lord's
name. Thousands of people Fellowship in homes across
the World ( and in Australia ) on various
days and nights.
Everyday people and friends that share a love for
Jesus can come together to offer that which is in their hearts, that is,
love with support and understanding for one another, in a non-threatening
environment.
In the context of such freedom ( without the red tape
of religion! ) all of us Christians may come to the fullness of Jesus in
our day to day living as we become united to one another and making up for
each other's short comings or needs. Of course that which we cannot provide
amongst ourselves we always entrust to the Lord in the full confidence of
His love and grace.
Just like safety houses in the community provide places
of refuge for all people when in danger, many Christians are also opening
their homes to all, as places of safety, where every person can be welcomed
as a friend and be free from any abusive forms of religion.
Communities and neighbourhoods only stand if the people
therein are united in common ground. Jesus gives us a common ground to unite
on and a common need for one another also and not just for our own sakes
only, but for the sake of our neighbourhood and community both for today
and tomorrow.
There are seven days in a week and 24 hours in the
day that you may seek, worship or praise God, whether it be in a building
on Sundays or in a home on weekdays. Again we must always remember that
"Church" is wherever people are gathered in Jesus' name.
