Christian Universalism

Christian Universalism is nothing new, it is as old as Christianity: 

• Universalism: The Prevailing Doctrine of the Christian Church During Its First Five-Hundred Years  

• The Early Christian View of the Savior: "Many Orthodox scholars acknowledge that the early Church did NOT primarily believe in Hell, but believed in the salvation of all mankind. They termed their belief in Greek "apocatastasis," that is, the restoration of all things back to God. This work by Gary Amirault quotes some of those Orthodox historians as well as some of the early church leaders who taught universalism through Jesus Christ"

Christian Universalism takes many forms, from ultra conservative Bible-Only Universalism to ultra liberal Universalism. Every major Christian Denomination has in its ranks Universalists:

1. Orthodox Universalists ( see: The Truth of Orthodoxy, by Nicholas Berdyaev
   & Father Lev Gillet, The Monk in the City, a Pilgrim in many worlds. See also: Orthodox Christianity in the British Isles John Scotus Eriugena ) 

2. Catholic Universalists ( Renowned Swiss theologian, Hans Urs von Balthasar wrote: "Hermann-Josef Lauter poses the uneasy question: 'Will it really be all men who allow themselves to be reconciled? No theology or prophecy can answer this question. But love hopes all things (I Cor. 13:7). It cannot do otherwise than to hope for the reconciliation of all men in Christ. Such unlimited hope is, from the Christian standpoint, not only permitted but commanded.'" see: Dare We Hope That All Men Be Saved? by Hans Urs von Balthasar, Ignatius Press. Karl Barth also expressed universalistic sentiments, and so did the great medieval mystic Julian of Norwich. See also: Bede Griffiths, Man, Monk, Mystic.
